According to New Scientist article (vol 136, issue 1845) “How One in Five Have Given Up Smoking” by Robert Matthews, researchers Frank Schmidt and student Chockalingam Viswesvaran of the University of Iowa “carried out a meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people” and found that “hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking“.

And if you need any more reason to quit: the article also states that the Institute of Actuaries found (from a study they had commissioned) that “the mortaility rate for smokers is twice as high as for nonsmokers and that, on average, a smoker dies 6 years earlier than a nonsmoker”.

If you are ready to stop smoking then maybe hypnosis will be most effective for you too.

While my clinic primarily offers hypnosis to residents of Tauranga – people will travel to my clinic from other areas nearby, such as: Mount Maunganui, Omokoroa, Waihi, Paeroa, Te Puke, Kawerau, Rotorua, Tirau, and Matamata.

Does that scare you?  If it does, then think about why?  How are your goals going for this year?  Are you on track to complete all/some/any?  If not, why not?  How are those New Year’s resolutions going?  Fallen by the wayside?  Or just never got off the ground?  One of the first things that it is important to think about when  you are considering your goal is why do you want to achieve it?  Without this insight you may find yourself never really committing properly to achieving it which could become a very considerable barrier to actually achieving it.  The why question is extremely important.

For an example, we could think about someone who has made a goal to stop smoking.  If that is you then ask yourself why did  you make that goal?  Was it because someone else wants you to stop or is it because you think you ‘should’?  What do you mean by ‘should’? – be honest with yourself, do you really want to?  If you decide that you do really want to stop smoking then define your goal – the more defined the better.  What is your definition of stopping?  Do you want to stop completely or is the occasional social smoke okay by you?   What about timeframes?  When do you want to achieve this?  Is there any particular reason why you choose that timeframe?  You could say: “I do want to stop but I will make it next month because this month I have a few parties I want to attend and I just want to enjoy these parties without having to think about the stop smoking thing” – if you are saying that then look back at your original answers to the question as to why you want to stop smoking – have you made a definite decision yet? and if not then why not?  Perhaps you are not quite ready yet or perhaps you need to redefine your goal.

It is almost a week on from the major earthquake that hit Christchurch.  For those who are not in Christchurch and are only able to view images and receive information through the media and social media of television, newspapers, and internet, it is almost a surreal experience for many.  New Zealanders that are not in Christchurch but are scattered throughout New Zealand and around the world can only imagine what it has been like for this city.  I, along with many others, feel helpless, and, at times even guilty, as we go about our daily business as we always have while other peoples’ lives are in ruins. As we all experience our emotions in the days and weeks ahead, we must allow ourselves to experience each emotion and recognise them for what they are – a normal reaction to what has been a big shock for many.

I would like to send loving thoughts to all those affected by these earthquakes either directly or indirectly, and I hope my hypnotherapy colleagues in Christchurch are faring well and are able to reach out to others who would benefit from their help.

To all those affected:

Serve others when and where you can.  Take comfort however you can.  And remember that your power comes from within.    Kia Kaha.

It seems to be a common problem – even when life is going good and we don’t seem to have much to worry about but we still don’t feel happy even though we think we should.  What’s going on?  It could be that there still remains in your body and mind some tension left over from a stressful event and/or time in your past.  The subconscious (being the emotional mind) may have held onto that tension and these feelings are affecting you consciously – hence, the unhappiness.

Letting go of the emotional affects from our past experiences is something that can be achieved with the use of hypnotherapy in only a few sessions.

When you are ready to let go of the past and let go of unhappiness then you are ready to make use of hypnosis to do this.  Then you can think yourself happy and actually feel it!

Goal Setting

October 22nd, 2010

How do you know what you want from your life if you don’t take the time to give it some thought?

Right now, grab a pen and paper and list five things about your life that you are not happy with right now.  Then, for each one, I want you to think about how you want it to be and, also, how you want to think and feel about it.  Once you have spent some time doing that, now it is time to challenge yourself.  I want you to write down what it is that you can do to bring that change about.  It is the actions that we take that make the difference.  (If you want something to be different but you keep doing the same things and acting the same way then you will get the same results!).  Now, pick just one of those things that you have written down and work on that for the next 5 days – just by taking an action, you have the power to set things in motion and you might be amazed as to what might occur.  Send me your list and I will advise you on how to realise those goals.

Once you have overcome the challenge of admitting that you have a problem that you need help with, and you actually then seek help, then you have already started the process of changing your life to the one that you want and that you deserve.

Next step: send me a message and tell me why you are searching for help, and I will advise you on what is the next step that is right for your individual needs.  Making a definite decision to change and then taking action means you are well on your way to living a happier life.

Are you ready to stop smoking?

October 1st, 2010

If you have made a definite decision to stop smoking, then giving up is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  It is important that you have made a definite decision to stop – hypnotherapy works best when this is the case.  It has alot less chance of working if you are only trying to stop because someone wants you to or because you think you ‘should’.  Also, smoking can be a symptom of some other issues in your life that you are coping with – these things need to be addressed first, and once they have been, then stopping smoking becomes relatively easy because it is just the habit that remains.  With suggestions given to you in the hypnotic state, then you will never reach for a cigarette and ‘light up’ without thinking.  Every time you reach for a cigarette, then your subconscious mind will alert your conscious mind that you want to stop smoking – it then becomes a conscious decision to put that cigarette down.  If you live local to me, and you are ready to stop smoking, have made a definite decision to stop smoking (because you no longer want smoking in your life), then I am able to assist you with that goal.

1.       You get in contact with me and let me know your address details.  I then send you a ‘stop smoking’ pack.  This pack will include tips to stop smoking with the use of hypnotherapy – including a relaxation exercise on cd with instructions and a cutting down method.  Once you have used the cd and cut down for a week then you are ready for step 2.

2.       You contact me to make an appointment.  This appointment takes approximately one hour.  We explore the reasons of why you want to give up smoking and I check with you that you have made a definite decision that this will be your quitting day.  Hypnosis is fully explained and then you are given suggestions during a hypnosis session.

3.      Four days later you come back for your final appointment.  Your progress is assessed, your future is discussed, and you are given more suggestions to your subconscious in a hypnosis session.  You take home the suggestions on cd for you to use at home.

If you have made a definite decision to stop smoking then I can assist you in achieving this goal.
