Insomnia – a common problem

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Not getting adequate sleep and/or feeling tired all the time are common problems that people experience. Some people have trouble sleeping because they find that they cannot relax at night.  Usually, these people are finding that their mind does not ‘switch off’ – and they just cant stop thinking!  Other people have difficulties getting comfortable in bed and will toss and turn.

If insomnia is a problem for you then this is actually a symptom of some other problem in your life.  While you can follow the advice commonly given for insomnia (eg. dont exercise late at night, dont drink alcohol or coffee at night, have a warm bath before bed, reduce thinking by making lists) the problem is not going to be completely solved until you learn how to reduce the tension (stress) in your life and also address those issues that are keeping you awake at night!

Hypnotherapy will help you to resolve those underlying issues and, also, teach you the tools you need to relax your body and mind so that you can get the rest and sleep that you need to function more effectively (and more energetically) each day.

Hypnosis: proved effective to stop smoking

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

According to New Scientist article (vol 136, issue 1845) “How One in Five Have Given Up Smoking” by Robert Matthews, researchers Frank Schmidt and student Chockalingam Viswesvaran of the University of Iowa “carried out a meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people” and found that “hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking“.

And if you need any more reason to quit: the article also states that the Institute of Actuaries found (from a study they had commissioned) that “the mortaility rate for smokers is twice as high as for nonsmokers and that, on average, a smoker dies 6 years earlier than a nonsmoker”.

If you are ready to stop smoking then maybe hypnosis will be most effective for you too.

Offering Hypnosis to Tauranga and the Greater Bay Area

Friday, April 1st, 2011

While my clinic primarily offers hypnosis to residents of Tauranga – people will travel to my clinic from other areas nearby, such as: Mount Maunganui, Omokoroa, Waihi, Paeroa, Te Puke, Kawerau, Rotorua, Tirau, and Matamata.

If you live outside of these areas, I am happy to recommend someone in your area that also offers hypnotherapy to a high standard.

Already quarter of a way through the year!

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Does that scare you?  If it does, then think about why?  How are your goals going for this year?  Are you on track to complete all/some/any?  If not, why not?  How are those New Year’s resolutions going?  Fallen by the wayside?  Or just never got off the ground?  One of the first things that it is important to think about when  you are considering your goal is why do you want to achieve it?  Without this insight you may find yourself never really committing properly to achieving it which could become a very considerable barrier to actually achieving it.  The why question is extremely important.

For an example, we could think about someone who has made a goal to stop smoking.  If that is you then ask yourself why did  you make that goal?  Was it because someone else wants you to stop or is it because you think you ‘should’?  What do you mean by ‘should’? – be honest with yourself, do you really want to?  If you decide that you do really want to stop smoking then define your goal – the more defined the better.  What is your definition of stopping?  Do you want to stop completely or is the occasional social smoke okay by you?   What about timeframes?  When do you want to achieve this?  Is there any particular reason why you choose that timeframe?  You could say: “I do want to stop but I will make it next month because this month I have a few parties I want to attend and I just want to enjoy these parties without having to think about the stop smoking thing” – if you are saying that then look back at your original answers to the question as to why you want to stop smoking – have you made a definite decision yet? and if not then why not?  Perhaps you are not quite ready yet or perhaps you need to redefine your goal.

Christchurch Earthquake affects many

Monday, February 28th, 2011

It is almost a week on from the major earthquake that hit Christchurch.  For those who are not in Christchurch and are only able to view images and receive information through the media and social media of television, newspapers, and internet, it is almost a surreal experience for many.  New Zealanders that are not in Christchurch but are scattered throughout New Zealand and around the world can only imagine what it has been like for this city.  I, along with many others, feel helpless, and, at times even guilty, as we go about our daily business as we always have while other peoples’ lives are in ruins. As we all experience our emotions in the days and weeks ahead, we must allow ourselves to experience each emotion and recognise them for what they are – a normal reaction to what has been a big shock for many.

I would like to send loving thoughts to all those affected by these earthquakes either directly or indirectly, and I hope my hypnotherapy colleagues in Christchurch are faring well and are able to reach out to others who would benefit from their help.

To all those affected:

Serve others when and where you can.  Take comfort however you can.  And remember that your power comes from within.    Kia Kaha.

Do you think you should be happy but are not feeling it?

Friday, February 18th, 2011

It seems to be a common problem – even when life is going good and we don’t seem to have much to worry about but we still don’t feel happy even though we think we should.  What’s going on?  It could be that there still remains in your body and mind some tension left over from a stressful event and/or time in your past.  The subconscious (being the emotional mind) may have held onto that tension and these feelings are affecting you consciously – hence, the unhappiness.

Letting go of the emotional affects from our past experiences is something that can be achieved with the use of hypnotherapy in only a few sessions.

When you are ready to let go of the past and let go of unhappiness then you are ready to make use of hypnosis to do this.  Then you can think yourself happy and actually feel it!

New Years Resolutions

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Did you make any New Years resolutions this year?  Its already mid-February – how are you getting on with that resolution?  Common ones are to lose weight or to give up smoking.  Perhaps you have made a resolution to get a better job or a promotion, maybe to improve a relationship with someone or maybe you just want to find someone to have a relationship with?

Whatever your goals for this year, I can help you to fulfil them.  If you haven’t got started towards your goals then start today – send me an email and tell me what it is you would like to change.
